Houston??? Really

Houston oh Houston you surprise me. So far, the best place I was in. I got into town early and had a great hotel in downtown. I was told Washington District was great and it is a small cab ride away so that’s why I stayed there. But when I drove through town it reminded me of SD. The new look of everything downtown, I’m guessing from the buildup of the stadium like SF was supposed to do. But the places are gorgeous, and I didn’t need to look for food or booze places cause they were all on Main st. Little Irish pubs and clubs on the same street. I got my stuff together and walked Main St. Found the closest Irish bar and dove in. I am a pretty big idiot when it comes to ordering drinks though. I get in my head what I want to drink and I go for it no matter where I am. I wanted a Manhattan. And they had great whiskey to do it with also. But when you walk into an Irish bar at 2pm and there is a little Asian girl behind the bar and you are in Houston, TX probably not the best idea. She poured dry vermouth in it and made it horrible. Whatever down it and give me a beer. Had a BLT and hit the game. Beautiful out. It was still light out at what I think was 8 or so. It’s beautiful down here. The stadium was great. Clean, pretty small, not as caverness as places like Phoenix and LA Angels. I walk around since there’s nothing else to do. Taking pictures and grabbing a nap while sitting at some random seat. Cause again. There are no one in these stadiums. I talked to someone before and they said it’s just something to do. When people actually start getting excited is when football comes around. Baseball I guess is just a time killer in TX. The game starts I get to root for the Astros, 1 because they are playing the Pirates and who really gives a shit about them and 2 cause Wandy the starting pitcher is on my fantasy team. SO go Astros. The bottom of the 1st comes around and I see the worst thing I’ve seen so far at these games. Lance Berkman hits line drive off the pitchers face!!!!! Fucking Brutal!!! You can see his feet kicking on the ground; dude is in massive pain, as would be expected. He did not stay in the game. Homeruns in the first couple innings giving the Astros the lead I need some substance cause the whiskey I’ve been drinking all day is starting to kick in. I grab a huge ass dog with chili and cheese all over it. I think it needed more cause I was still able to eat it with my hands but what ya gonna do. The game ends, and I get out of there to hit what looked like a great town. I go to yelp to try and find a cocktail bar so I can actually get some good booze mixed together, and find this place called Hearsay!!!!!! Hear me Say this…..AMAZING!!!!! I’d go back just for this place. I go in and already stoked. Beautiful woman sitting at the bar and booze, booze, boozzzzzeeeee. Finally please someone know how to make a good drink. Drink list impeccable. I order some random fru fru drink. Bartender sees that I’m not the type of dude to be dainty and uses a judgment call and doesn’t put the flower petals on top of the drink as he normally would. Already commendable and I’ve been here 2 min. I chat it up see some food and just tell him to make me something. Joe the bartender I’m dealing with gives me over to Anthony who is the bar manager. He makes me something and put it in front of me. I smell it and smell cinnamon. I taste it, its taste amazing. But don’t really know what is in it. I know some cinnamon, maybe this maybe that. I don’t know. I ask and he tells me Old Fashion. Something I’ve drank 20 times this trip at least and this is by far, hands down the best damn Old Fashion I’ve ever tasted. I think I make a great one and this puts mine to shame. Finally a place that’s teaching me something that I can bring back. He’s got 2 different bitters in an air pump spray bottle that just releases the aroma perfectly. He put it just on top and wall la!! I eat some lamb chops. I know steak in Texas but the guy next to me had these and I couldn’t say no. I figured I would go see the town some more but why!!! I had the best food and drinks I thought I’d find in Houston. I sat there all night meeting the bartender’s; one is this girl who is trying out to be a Houston Texan cheerleader, and a guy from Mississippi who lives pretty much upstairs. Just fantastic time. Everyone is so nice; they care how your experience is going. Now I have to get to the hotel. I get back on Main St. and the clubs are flowing out. Not to packed but people are standing outside. Felt so safe in this town. Usually when you’re walking through clubs at 1:30am there are a bunch of drunken assholes yelling and thinking there is going to be a fight at every corner. Not so. Maybe just cause I was drunk and staring at tail the whole time and there was plenty of it. But I’ve never felt safer walking through a club neiberhood. It was dance club, dance club, restaurant, café, club, pub, nice restaurant. And everyone having a good time. All in all one of my favorite cities of all time. Will I be back?? Probably not cause there not really anything down here but hey you never know.

One Star = Lone Star

So waking up in I Have No Clue, TX. I know it’s about 4 or 5 hours from Arlington. And it’s another 30 min to Dallas. I want to see where JFK was shot and walk around a little bit. Pulling into Dallas was a great feeling. Being in an actual city and seeing buildings and things and stuff. It is a nice feeling being back in a city after being on the road following a storm all night. And since my dad told me Tornado’s don’t go into city’s and only stay in trailer parks, lol I knew I was safe. Dallas is a very nice looking city. Older looking but still has that new kinda look to it. Dealy Plaza isn’t very far into the city it’s pretty much right off the freeway. I park and go into the museum. Nice little audio tour. It only cost like $16 and you get to see the 6th floor, get an audio tour and a cell phone tour where you can go out and see the plaza and all the history where he drove and such. It was a weird experience cause you’d think that the government wouldn’t really talk about the conspiracy theory surrounding JFK. But it’s all over the museum and on a plaque outside on the Book Depository is a sign that says this is where Lee Harvey Oswald supposedly shot JFK. The upstairs is a tad bit boring and nothing I hadn’t seen on the History Channel but it was very cool to see were Oswald was when he shot the President. You couldn’t take any pics but what ya gonna do. It takes like 20 min max to see everything at least at my pace. I start the cell phone tour outside. Now I do love myself a conspiracy theory and this is bull shit. K on TV it makes it look like everything is so far away from another. I think the distance from Oswald to where JFK was shot 2 times is less than 100 yards. On TV it looks like miles. But the first shot looks so close to me and a military trained guy who can shoot just doesn’t seem that hard to me. Then how close the Grassy Knoll is to where he was shot is even closer and seeing how close it was it boggles my mind how people can think they heard a shot from there and not know for sure. It’s too close to think that you might have heard a gunshot. If your 20 feet from a gunshot you know you heard a gunshot. Was a very informative trip there.
I go to Arlington and stop for lunch at this little shit hole. On the wall its says Jager is our house wine so you know you are in a classy joint. I get a burger that is famous in Arlington. It’s actually decent. Nothing I’d recommend in SF but for a stop off burger not bad. I grab a shitty hotel and relax for a while. I head to the game. It’s like 6 blocks from where I am staying and I find out that the Cowboy Stadium is right next door. This place is huge!!!!! A picture does no justice. You look at the baseball stadium and you go yea that’s big and you turn your head and you see this Coliseum and you just go, now that’s TEXAS BIG. Massive, gaudy and ridiculously awesome. I’ll need to go to a game there one day in my life. Getting the feeling in Arlington though is I think it would be like going to a Raider game. Maybe I’ll just go for a tour in the future. The stadium is nice. Again people aren’t really the brightest. When I was driving through Texas I was listening to a comedian on the satellite radio and he’s talking about how people who usually stay in one star hotels shouldn’t stay had 4 star hotels. And how the people in Texas are 1 star people. That’s why they call it the Lone Star state. Lol This state is defiantly Lone Star quality. I mean small questions like where is your main gate? Umm there all main gates. You can tell who is from Texas to. Ohhhh weeee. There’s no mistaking the southerner’s. Everybody is married and pregnant. And if your older than 30 your body has deteriorated to the slap jawed yokel. Anyway, the game was cool I actually got to root for the home team. Inside the stadium I smell something very familiar. It kinda smells like the Mission District at 11 o’clock. It gets my tummy rumbling. I’m really hoping there is bacon wrapped around those dogs. No such luck. Just dogs and grilled onions. I grab one and a soda and start dripping the flask into the spite. Texas goes up and my luck so far they give it up and the Tigers tie it up in the 9th. Now this is an awesome part. So its fireworks night, with music to Elvis. Because they are celebrating this Kid named Elvis on the team. So bases loaded in and who comes up?? Elvis it is. He hits a base hit to center and wins the game on his night. Not too bad of an ending not to bad at all. I walk my happy ass through 2 parking lots by myself, kinda like walking through Candlestick Park’s parking lot. No one around and kinda ghetto but whatever nothings there. I find out where a bar is and grab a taxi and get ready for some drinking. Of course it starts to pour down rain cause that’s all it does in the south is just damn rain!!!! I really should have checked a forecast before I left. But whatever. I go in to this shitty bar in a strip mall where everyone from that town is at. Nice live music and well that’s it. Women aren’t the best down here in the “One Star State” I grab a drink and am walking outside for a smoke. I light up; take a sip and turn around to see the craziest things I think I’ve ever seen. Right out of the Twilight Zone. There is a sign out on the patio that says “Arlington city law prohibits smoking on patios” YOU CANT SMOKE OUTSIDE AT BARS!!!!! You have to grab a drink light up smoke inside and if you want to leave put your cigarette out before you walk outside then cross the patio and light up again!!!!!! Are you fucking kidding me???!! My mind was so boggled I had to ask the cop that was stationed in the bar. Yes a cop’s job was to sit in the bar and make sure everything was ok in this one bar. He said yea it’s a little ass backward but ehhhh. After that I had to have a couple more to calm down a little and got a cab to the hotel and passed out tomorrow is in Houston.

BTW forgot to tell everyone i was in the stadium and i was going up the escalators and i started to walk up them and the guy at the bottem told me to stop walking up them. It was against the rules of the stadium!!! Again are you kidding me??!!

Pictures on Facebook

So didnt know i couldnt put pics on here and you probably can but im lazy ans hate lookign for it so for now they are on my face book. Mathew Frantin

Texas, lol...WOW

So getting up from my weird night in Phoenix at 9:30 and I start what will be the second longest drive on this trip. The longest being Denver to Home. I just want to get there. I hear well…things about El Paso so I decide that’s where I’ll stop and if I time it right ill make it there to see the NFL Draft. I know I’m a nut for my sports. I’m driving, and driving and driving……. And there is nothing!!! I forget that there is New Mexico in between Texas and Arizona. That was a bout of oh no!!! Since I forget it’s there and apparently so did God cause again there is nothing there!!! I look up at some random hour and see Welcome to New Mexico sign pass me right up. I need to go back, I don’t need to break laws where I get a ticket but I’m figuring at this point I’m NEVER coming back here so I flip a bitch on the dirt divider in the middle of nowhere. People saw me do it and probably couldn’t believe what I was doing. But fuck it I’m not missing a picture with this sign. I don’t know how far I’ll have to go back to get an exit to come back to the sign and go into New Mexico again!!! Or if I’m just gonna have to flip a bitch on the divider again. Cold sweat and a long road of nothingness looking me in the eyes I’m starting to think turning around was a bad idea but thank god someone was smart enough to put an exit so people like me who miss the sign can come back around. I swear that’s the only reason there was an exit it just turned you around. Very smart. I pull around and get my picture taken in front of it. A dude riding his bike is passing me by as I’m doing this and I can’t believe I’m seeing another biker, ride though this desert. And no not motorcycle. A BIKE!!! People are nuts. Anyway I get the pic and start going again. Mile and mile of flatland. The only thing in the distance is a rock formation and I pass it and look for the next one. You can see them off in the distance but it takes a good 30 – 45 min to get to each one. That’s kinda nuts in my book. 6-7 hours of driving later I pull into Texas, Not wanting to miss the sign here I’m paying close attention. Gives me something to concentrate on instead of blue collar comedy, music and sports talk. I pull into El Paso. And I need some BBQ!!! Yeeee HHAAAA. Punch it into the GPS it spits out Stateline BBQ. Been there 30 years and they have the draft on. Looking good so far. I order up a sampler platter and GITTY UP. Beef Rib, some baby back ribs, some Tri Tip, a sausage, turkey, beans, coleslaw and potato salad. Yes it was a lot!!! Barreled right in and had to use a fork and knife because they didn’t have a shower for me there to take after I was done bathing in the BBQ sauce that was on the plate. Loving the food on this trip so far. Making this trip that much more exciting. I eat pretty much every bite. The coleslaw and beans weren’t great but who gives a crap when you have 40 pounds of meat on your plate. I finish up just in time cause as we are watching the draft. The wind is so strong it knocks out the power to apparently the whole town. Isn’t Texas filled with power? How is it not working well enough to give everyone power all the time? I have to listen to the rest of the draft in the car and not a bad idea cause I still have 9-10 hours of driving still. I get on the road and for some reason in Tx, they like to keep you on your toes. Putting the speed limit at 70 then 80 then 65 then 75 then 70 then 55, 45, 35, 25 and stop for the border patrol. I have nothing in my car and it was still freaky. At night you can only drive 65 cause 70 is way too fast. This state man I swear not starting good. About 9 rolls around and I see in the distance lightning bolts all across the sky. City boys should not be in the middle of Texas at night. I’ve got the movie twister in my head and I swear to god if I drive into a tornado I’m gonna be pissed. I’m turning it to the local stations and no hearing anyone say any warnings. But a warning for me is I haven’t passed anyone in id say about 30 min. When no one is going the same way as you are and everyone is going away you start to think about what the hell you are doing in the middle of TX lol. I’m following this damn storm for almost 4 hours. Watching it move to my right. I’m looking at my GPS praying that I don’t take a sharp right into. Granted the line has been straight since I got into New Mexico. I finally start to see towns and Odessa is one of them. I want to see some Friday night lights and I need to race like a piss horse so I stop in and guess what is there!!!! It was ……nothing. Lol still nothing on these roads. But seeing on the floor big puddles from what is looking like one hell of a storm. I drive till about 1:30 and stop in ummm fuck I don’t know. Grab a nice 7 hours and call the longest day of driving in my life.
Side note. Didn’t know what the Pecos were but I passed it. And now I do, and learning why everything west of the Pecos is better HA

Hot, Cold and Crazy

So the ride from SD to Phoenix was more than interesting. When i started this trip out i figured i would be in hot ass weather the whole time and i probably not even bring pants. But wow have i been wrong. After it raining in SD i woke up and left my dad and started driving to Phoenix for my trip by myself. I got on the road about 9:30 and once i say some area on the road i cranked up the music, some The Bravery - Believe, which actually kept me wanting to go on this trip when i was planning it all out. I get going and not more than 10 min on the road it start to rain again and not like last night but pounding god damn rain!!! Its SD for Christ sakes its suppose to be beautiful. Anyway so i keep going and i did not really look at the topography of what i would be driving but on this little trek you go into the mountains!!!! Do you know what it does in the mountains when it rains???!! IT FUCKING SNOW!!!! Yes S-N-O-W. I'm driving from SD where its suppose to be the best weather to a place where its suppose to be 1000 degrees and its snowing. And not a little mist of snow. Full on get my ski's out.(or snowboard whatever you ride) I'm hung over as sin and dehydrated and driving by myself for the first time on this trip and I'm freaking out. Little panic attack on the top of a snowy mountain during the begining of a trip is an amazing feeling lol. I breathed and drove and got down it. Then you start to get into flat land. And i get a couple hours into driving out of the snow and what do i see??? Mexico and absolute desert. Like desert you see on TV. Just sand. Ive never seen it before. I was a really cool site but I'm just laughing out loud in my car thinking snow to desert, just ridiculous. Saw out defense on boarder jumping and it was a 8ft? wall fence that i could probably jump over so no wonder people are pissed that there is no security. Also talked to a guy in Phoenix who said that's prob the best part of the fence the rest is shitty and barely a fence at all. Anyway. I stop right out side of Yuma, AZ where i take my first crossing state line pic. Driving though AZ was beautiful. There wasn't much there but at least there are some awesome rock formations. Really cool, you see it on TV but for me it never really existed till i saw it for myself. And looking at them wondering how they were formed so weird. Like a person standing on a rock made out of rock. Mother nature man!!! just ridiculous. After about 5 hours of driving i pull into Tempe not really having a plan. I know I'm gonna park and take the train in and prob sleep in my car. Hindsight is 20/20 by the way. This wasn't a great part of my plan.

The game was Cardinals and D-bags. I mean D-backs. I'm still rooting against the D-backs cause they are in our division. But as the game goes on the kid to my right thinks he know everything and keep saying stupid ass shit. The Cards go up and he talks more, and more and more. So i start rooting for the D-bags, cause the dude behind me is a cool guy and we all start the chatting. Always fun to talk baseball with people from other places. The D-bags tie it up and then the relief pitching comes in and you can feel the tension in the place. They've lost 4 games that they were winning in the 9th in the last week. And they did what they had been doing. They blow it and blow it bad. 5 runs in the top of the 9th inning. after the first run everyone gave up hope. I've never seen people turn on their team so fast. Everyone was cheering on min and the next booing and yelling and just really pissed off. If i was in NY or Bos or even LA for the Dodgers and this happen I'd be worried about a riot but 90 year old don't really riot they just boo relay loudly. lol. All 15,000 people. Another disappointing show for MLB west fans. just no getting to many people going to the games.

After the game i took the train back to Tempe. and dropped my stuff of at my car which i don't know why i was so worried about it, its freaking Tempe, AZ. But i start freaking out and need to move it and im thinking i need to move it somewhere i can hide and get some sleep tonight without cops or a ton of people walking by. i find a decent place and people are going to be walking around in the morning but ill be gone at 9 so what the hell. I eat at this amazing diner right on Mill st. Its a hipster hangout. Everyone tatted up and ripped fishnets. Very hot. Place was called Sucker Punch Sally's Diner. I felt very out of place but I'm figuring won;t be the last and sure as hell not the first. Food's cheap and i want to try a couple things i order a deep fried pork loin sandwich and Mac and cheese with everything in it. I mean everything. Bartender says its a lot food, I'm thinking i can still put a dent in it. NOT A CHANCE. She wasn't joking its was 3 full meals for me and the people at the bar are looking at me even more. I again share my Mac and Cheese with some lovely ladies at the bar. Amazing stuff. i wish i could have more than 5 bites out of these plates. So awesome. I get out paying like $25 and that's with 2 beers and food for a week. I go up and down the streets drinking at each place. College towns i can do with friends but by myself i need a more chill place where i can sit relax and chat. A shit ton of college kids and people older than me acting like they are still in college, really kinda sad. I drink till like 1 and call it a night i go to my car and try to sleep. I'm feeling weird and not liking the feeling of being there. So i walk around trying to find a hotel that has a room. NOTHING!!! I'm freaking out cause i have a 16 hour drive ahead of me and need some sort of sleep so i don't pass out on the road. i do the dumbest thing and drive my car to the nearest Motel 6 which is still only 2 miles away on a very straight street but scared shitless I'm gonna get in trouble. Thank god nothing does and i pull in grab a good 7 hours. Much needed.

Not So. Cal

So was in San Diego and really really wish it wasn't in So. Cal. Its so beautiful. The weather is always beautiful. Well except the day that we are there. We get there at night on Tuesday night. Beautiful night little chilly but nice. Me and pops were staying at a really nice Ramada St. James. bar restaurant downstairs. we grab some bar food. Pretty good for an all night restaurant. i, pretty sure i had something spicy cause everything i've eaten all weekend has been spicy. lol. my stomach is not loving me at all.
We get up and go to the old Spaghetti factory only because we were there like 6-7 years ago and the top floor was amazing!!! one of the reason we loved SD. But that wasn't open and we assumed it was the same. I say Ney Ney. it was like a bad Pasta Pomodoro. Another spicy meat-a-ball sandwich. dad had a spicy sausage sandie. Both below avg. and a store bought sweet and sour mix for my to god damn sweet pear margarita. But ideas pop into my head. We went across the st to Lou and Micky's. A reference from a co-worker. Nice people. Good Whiskey. I've had so much whiskey its amazing!!!! We went to the game and of course, of course!!!! it starts to rain. At this point im freaking out cause im 3 games in and i think im going to have a postponed game and already ruin the trip. I run into Kruk and Kuip , get a couple autographs and tell them about what im doing. They do what they should and say they want to hear about it when i get back. blah.... anyway. The game thankfully starts but me and dad spend most the game in the bar. More nice people of course in SD. Its amazing down here. We eat some actually descent bar food. Some sliders and small calzones. ehhhhhh i recommend other park food besides this bar food. They looked like they had a bunch. Kinda like AT&T. Little bit of this and that. All of everything. The Giants lose Again!!! Its been one shitty ass weekend when it comes to the teams im rooting for. The shitty thing is, is there are more giants fans than Padres fans. Theres actually "LETS GO GIANTS" chants going on. Theres about 15g at the game and id say 10 are Giants fans. I keep finding out that no one cares about the Padres, not even their fans. But they are nice, and way better than people in Hell.A. I got to see an old friend from Rohnert Park and tried a actual whiskey place called El Dorado. Shit hole in the middle of nowhere, but had good whiskey. Expensive for shit hole but more than Jim Beam at this point is great. We should trade Oakland for SD!!!!

Sum up of So. Cal

Sum up from So. Cal.
So all in all it’s been a great time in LA. The food and drink were amazing, the people a tad bit weird but still quite nice to a Father-Son team from SF. I do have to give it to LA for another thing to. The women are out of this world. At both games here the women were dressed scantily at best. High heels, skirts, small little shirts that say Dodgers and Angels that would definitely look better ripped off, lol. Sorry mom if you’re reading this. But this is night and day from SF. I know the weather is a big difference but on a kind of cold night in Anaheim these women didn’t care at all. And if they didn’t wear a skirt they wore jeans that I could swear was painted on. Women of San Francisco I plead to you…MAKE US BETTER THAN LA!!!! Rough and tough it through the cold. Get your stilettos out and your skirt that would make a hooker blush and go root for our Giants. Show these people from LA that you are better than them. I’ve gotten in many a argument with people from outside SF and they all say that the women in our City don’t hold a candle to women in LA and NY. I always defend you ladies, but after this show of talent down here……I don’t think I can anymore, unless you start showing these fine looking little hussies up. That’s the most praise ill give to this town I’d love to see flushed out to sea. Now I’m hoping for it more, so there are wet t-shirts on the women, lol!!!!!!!!!

Heaven is Empty

Heaven is Empty
We wake up very, very, very slow again. Taking our time to get out of the hotel. We get down close to Los Angeles Angel Stadium in Anaheim. Still don’t know why the stupid, long name. We get some lunch at this big chain called National Sports Grill and Bar in Orange City?? More with the names down here. They are a tad bit off. Most of the names of the streets I can’t pronounce or they are just weird. I needed to be a bit healthy do food today so I grabbed a wrap. Deep fried chicken with ranch dressing and another spicy mayo on the side. Lol really healthy. It did come with watermelon and cantaloupe but I didn’t even touch them. Washing it down with a couple screwdrivers. Not very good food at all. But it was substance in a kinda hung-over but still not feeling that bad of a stomach. We run some errands and wait in the car for the game to start. We walk in and it’s a pristine stadium. It was built in the same era as Candlestick and was wondering how it looked so nice. I found out very soon as the game started and there was less people there than the start of the Dodger game. I guess it doesn’t matter what stadium you are in, in LA no one shows up on time. I wonder if people who go to the Lakers games show up in the 2nd quarter and leave in the 3rd. The amount of people never got any better. I’ve never seen a stadium so empty in my life. There was no one there!!!!! And when I say no one I don’t mean like 30,000 I mean like 30 people. The pictures will show that. I took 1 of behind the bleachers during mid inning and no one is walking no one is standing getting food just dead. The food was good at least. Clyde’s BBQ, a pulled pork sandwich and a foot long Italian sausage with onions and peppers. Awesome. I was concerned cause I asked a couple people what was good in there to eat and 1 said there was everything in here. Chinese food and BBQ and diner food. The Chinese food was Panda Express and a place that served like Johnny Rockets food. Again I’m glad we did BBQ. The game was boring as hell, it was a nice pitcher’s duel but when the people don’t even clap when the scoreboard tells them to, and you know you have a very dedicated crowd on our hands. WOW just emotionless. The only thing they would do was boo Johnny Damon and I don’t know why they hate him so much. He won a couple World Series? Weird ass LAites. I was wearing all my orange to represent but also to root for the Tigers, people didn’t like that but I think I got heckled more by Dodger fans that were there who probably outnumbered Angels fans. The Angels got an early 2 runs and the Tigers just couldn’t get that clutch hit. The Tigers lost 2-0. So I’m 0 – 2, and each home team has won. Not looking good for the rest of the trip.

Dogs, Dodgers and Disapointment

We wake up slowly on Sunday for our Giants/ Dodger game. Taking our time but knowing we got to get to the stadium soon cause knowing LA there’s going to be traffic. And of course there was a line the size of San Francisco. We already have our tickets at will call from online, but of course they had no clue what we were talking about. No biggy though, we got the tickets and go in. I was defiantly not as freaked out as I was last year when I went to the night game. And maybe it was because we were sitting in little better seats. I’m geared up and everyone passing me looks at me like I’m the biggest ass in the world, which would normally be true but I’m in LA surrounded by them, so not a chance. We grab a couple beers and some Dodger dogs. Worst food ever at this stadium. Granted it’s the first stadium on the trip but all they had was Carl’s JR., CPK, a cheese steak place that no one was in line for and these horrible things they call hot dogs. 7-11 does a better job. But I’m not expecting anything good here since it is LA and it is Dodger stadium. These dogs had burn marks on them, and tasted like rubber. $30 for all of it. But Zito was pitching and a 9 run victory the day before, so nothing was gonna get me down. Pitcher’s duel of pitchers duels. 3 hits for each with no runs going into the 7th. OOOUUUUUU – Ribe gets up and smacks a bomb getting all 10 of the Giants fans up and cheering. Coasting, watching people leave in the 8th. Then this huge roar starts and I have no f-ing clue what’s going on. I look at the dugout and they are putting Manny in as a pinch hitter with a man on 1st. This place was ridiculous. The electricity was amazing, even for me. This was a huge change from the previous 8 innings where the people barely clapped unless the scoreboard told them to. Watching him come up was like watching Barry for us Giants fans. Just knowing that he was going to win this game in 1 swing. And what does he do. Just that!!! FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Romo drops one in to the red zone for Manny and he takes this damn thing 407 feet out to left. I heard it, lowered my head and had everyone around me jumping out of their skin. Shitty ending to a great day.
Well to drown our sorrows we had already planned to go to the Library bar in downtown LA. They are closed so we see The Daily Grill and stop in. Sit at the bar and grab some more Old-Fashions. Shawn from El Paso, TX is our bartender and just a cool dude. Too bad he was a Dodger fan but he was nice enough not to rub it in. Way better of a guy than I am. I’d have yelled at a Dodger fan and spit in his drink. We get to talking and we have 2 hours to kill so we order some happy hour food. A little calamari…ehhhh not great. Blue Cheese Fries, just drenched in pounds and pounds of cheese…..These were ridiculous. And Seared Ahi… Awesome and I’m not a seafood fan, but these were cooked perfect and it was so fresh. More top notch food in LA, and this time the drinks and service matched up. Something that never happens in SF happens when I’m out smoking. I’m minding my own business and I look up and see the big, hairy dude from Sons of Anarchy. Couldn’t believe it and I think I was in more shock because I was about 6 sheets to the wind. Said he man love the show, he thanked me and he walked away. Just so weird. You don’t run into famous people just walking down the street in SF. Anyway so we left and thanked everyone. They gave us an idea for dinner the LA Pride. It’s on the 35 floor across the st. So we go to Library bar for a quick drink and reminisce about the last time we were in this bar and we stumbled out to get us a steak. We go up to the LA Pride but get lost and end up at the Rotunda and aren’t too happy we can’t get food cause we thought this was the place we wanted. I sit down, put my hat on the edge window sill next to me and get a tap on my shoulder from this nice Asian couple asking me if this was my hat. THE DAMN THING WAS MOVING AND I PUT MY HAT ON IT THINKING IT WOULD STILL BE THERE!!! Like I said we were 6 sheets by the time we got our seat in LA Pride we were 15 sheets at least. We sit down grab a NY Steak and Prime Rib. Cooked to perfection with a great view of LA and a great bottle of Duckhorn Pinot that blends perfectly. Service was great. The woman was from Marin and from what I remember we talked about The City for a little bit. We then put ourselves together and drove home very very very slowly. Another good sleep for me. I can’t say the same for my Pops he didn’t quite make it in good health through the night. HA, he’ll hate me for putting that. Another great day except for the Giants loss but you can’t win them all I was just hoping they’d win that one.

Finally on the road

OK so it took a little long for me to do my first blog post on this trip because my dad and I have been having a blast and if you know us at all we like to drink and eat a lot so doesn’t make much time for blogging. I was going to try and do this the other late night but I was worried every other word would be misspelled and I wouldn’t even know what I wrote about because we have been drinking a shit ton of Old Fashions.
Anyway so ill start with the ride down. Nice, easy and no traffic at all. Well until we got into LA of course. I spent most the time reading the directions on my new camera. There are a ton of cool ass things I can do on it that I never would have thought. I used the full battery before we even got to our hotel. On the way down we stopped in at Harris Ranch. This place should be a stop for everyone who drives down to LA. You can smell you’re getting close because of all the shit, literally. But the smell of shit gives way to the smell of cooked burgers and steaks!!! We walked in grabbed a couple beers of course and watched the Giants destroying the Dodgers and Timmy being “The Freak” that he is. We split the burgers we got. I had this awesome Portobello mushroom burger. Which of course had the burger and the mushroom, but also roasted red peppers and basil aioli. Dad had a caprese burger. Also awesome!!! Melted mozzarella and great tomatoes. Top notch!!! We were talking to the bartender who was angry he had to use fresh ingredients in his drinks. Not the brightest dude. Especially him hearing me talk about the things I do at the bar. I think I remember him comparing using fresh ingredients to working at Red Robin. Again not the brightest guy in the world. But he did have another great job at the “night club” in Coalinga!!! Lol if there is a night club in that 2 horse town then I’m the president of it.
We got to LA about 7 and relaxed a couple hours in the hotel room. Place is also very cool. The Crowne Plaza in the Commerce Casio. Yep a casino right underneath where I am staying all bad. We got ready and hit the town. Drove to Hollywood, and WOW!!!! Saturday night in Hollywood is like being at a high class Marina District in SF. Women in close to nothing and loving showing it off. We went to this high end restaurant called Citizen Smith. It was old, rustic, high ceilings and more of these fantastic LA women. We sit at the bar, which looks like a great SF “mixology” bars. Looked like was it. The only one who knew anything about how to make any sort of drink was this chick. The 2 dudes I don’t think knew what bourbon was. Old-Fashion, Manhattan, Bombay Sapphire, beer, beer and more bourbon and we were set for food. LoL. Again great food. Since we still weren’t that hungry from lunch, we ordered light, or what I thought was light. Dad got a Caesar that he loved, I though tasted too much of anchovies but that’s what a Caesar is so, I can’t complain. He also got these 3 meatballs covered in sauce and cheese. I just wanted a soup and side. Keeping it light right. I got the French Onion Soup, which was off the chain. Made just the way I like it. 4 pounds of cheese, 2 big crustini’s, a whole bunch of onions and some soup. Then the Jalapeño Mac & Cheese comes out. It’s the size of my head and I can hardly look at it let alone eat it. But I drive in grabbing a bite. Loving it, but knowing ill need a spatula later to scrape it off my ribs. I hear this girl next to us comment on the Mac and cheese, so I tell the bartender to grab another couple plates and forks. The One is Vegan, so sad. Another one like Iris from work that doesn’t eat skittles!!!! But the other one was more than down I gave her a couple bites then just put the whole plate in front of her. I think when I wasn’t looking she licked the plate. Cool gals. They were turning the place into a night club so we pounded our drinks and drove out slowly looking at the forest of skin that is Hollywood and headed back to the hotel to sleep off what would be a very sound sleep. HA.

5 Days Left

Soooo, my trip is coming up quickly. People keep asking me if I'm scared at this point. Definitely not scared. Way to excited to be scared. I have every detail planned out. Ive crossed my I's and dotted my T's (lol) at this point and i know exactly what time i need to leave each day to get to the next destination. One of the only concerns i have is the time change. I have a feeling I'm going to be driving through some random city and ask some poor unsuspecting guy what time zone I'm in?
I have a couple tickets to games already. My Dad has decided to start my trip out with me. We are leaving at 10am on Saturday morning and he will go to the Giants/Dodger game, the Tiger/Angel game, and the Giants/Padres game. Then i will drop him off at the airport on Wednesday, and drive to Phoenix. I have gotten some great ideas on where to go in both these cities. I do know for one thing i need some Mexican food while down in SD. Everyone says its so much better than the Mexican food up here, so I definitely have to see. Even though I'm in LOVE with Papalote on Masonic and Fulton. The salsa is the most amazing stuff. You get a huge ass burrito, chips, salsa, nice and great service. It is almost $10 but when i want a burrito i want a burrito!!!
I've also gotten tickets to the Nationals/Braves game. My Aunt Sandy's family is down there and was able to pull me 2 tickets. So stoked!!! And my cuz Justin is thinking of coming down to meet me for the game. It should be a good time.
I've also decided that I'm not going to make many hotel reservations. Except for the ones where i am staying more than one day(NO, Miami, D.C., NY, and Boston). Everything else I'm just gonna drive into town and either get a cheap hotel, when there or just stay in my car for a couple hour nap before moving on. I have been talking to a lot of people about hotels and most the travelers tell me to use Hotwire.com. It looks like that is going to work for the long stays and ill be booking all of those on Friday morning along with buying my Giants/Mets, Yankee/Red Sox, and Twins/ Yankee games. Then ill be set and ready to go. The rest of the games I'm just gonna walk up to and buy from the ticket windows or I'm gonna scalp them. I figure it shouldn't be to hard to get tickets to the Nationals game lol.
